Our guests enjoy the extensive outdoor spaces including the south-west facing terrace and balcony, BBQ terrace, private courtyard and bespoke salt water decked pool is nestled on one of the terraces that cascade down the hillside.

Lunigiana is steeped in history, tradition and culture and the Via Francigena, the medieval pilgrim route from Canterbury to Rome, passes by the village and offers hiking and walking opportunities. The local roads are quiet and ideal for running whilst taking in the beautiful countryside.

The closest beaches at Lerici, San Terenzo and La Spezia offer sunbathing, windsurfing, sailing, boat trips to the Cinque Terre and private beaches. The Cinque Terre beaches can also be reached (more easily than by car) by train direct from Pontremoli.
Walking/hiking and cycling are popular in the area. Via Francigena - the medieval pilgrim route from Canterbury to Rome that passes by the hamlet. Parco dei Cento Laghi (Park of a Hundred Lakes) has a network of 150km of mountain paths that are suitable for cyclists. The Cinque Terre is also very popular with walkers providing coastal routes with amazing views.
There are a number of equestrian centres near Pontremoli offering horseriding and further afield at Parco dei Cento Laghi and various other areas locally.
Outdoor swimming pools
Villafranca di Lunigiana has an amazing public outdoor swimming pool complex nestled amongst the mountains that tower above you as lounge on the grass or by the poolside. There is a children's pool an Olympic size pool and diving boards, with a snack bar for drinks, ice cream, crisps etc.
During the Winter months there is skiing at Zum Zeri, a small local ski resort. It is a 45 minute drive from the house and has a modest number of runs that would suit families learning to ski. There is a bar and restaurant at the bottom of the slope and a ski hire shop.
There are numerous Italian cities that are within easy driving distance of the villa and the local towns and castles are stunning.
